VHS "Paris, Texas" di Wim Wenders. "Paris Texas è il capolavoro di Wenders, almeno così viene descritto dai media. Ed hanno ragione. Descrive l'itinerario triste di un uomo che ha passato un esperienza dolorosa, e sceglie di rifugiarsi, sia alla fine che all'inizio del film, nella solitudine, alla ricerca di un luogo, (un luogo che ha "acquistato" quando era felice), ove rifugiarsi. L'ambientazione del film ricalca quella tipica dei film con paesaggi "on the road", ma la storia è un qualcosa che si isola dal contesto scenografico, una storia che potrebbe essere raccontata anche in altri modi. Wenders sottolinea il carattere di quest'uomo, descrivendo in tutto il film la sua fragilità d'animo, e la sua bontà. Una bontà che sembra contrastare con la decisione di lasciare il figlio di lei con lei, senza riportarlo indietro dai genitori adottivi. Ma in realtà, un grande gesto d'amore e di comprensione verso l'ex compagna. Wenders gira il film utilizzando la reale dimensione temporale, sia nel volgere dell'intera storia, che nel mostrare singole scene. Un film incredibilmente emozionante, e che alla fine stringe il cuore, per un epilogo emozionante, quanto logico, nella sua fredda descrizione

"Travis (Harry Dean Stanton) is wandering through the Texas desert, a bit shaky and in desperate need of water, when he stumbles into a bar and collapses. A German doctor of dubious credentials finds a phone number in Travis's wallet, which belongs to his brother, Walt (Dean Stockwell). Walt is shocked to hear about his brother's condition, since no one in the family has seen or heard from Travis in four years; Walt flies to Texas to bring him home, only to find Travis wandering by the side of the road, and they begin the long drive back to Los Angeles, where Walt lives with his wife Anne (Aurore Clement) and Hunter (Hunter Carson), Travis's seven-year-old son. At first, Travis refuses to speak and is oddly distant, but in time he begins to talk again, and when he arrives in California, he begins the painful process of reacquainting himself with his son and trying to reconcile with his wife Jane (Nastassia Kinski). Paris, Texas may be the finest of Wim Wenders's "road movies," a deliberately paced but deeply moving story of a man at the end of his emotional rope who is given an unexpected chance to heal both his scars and those he has inflicted on others. Harry Dean Stanton gives perhaps his finest performance -- few actors could pull off a scene like the long monologue he shares with Kinski near the film's conclusion -- and he is ably supported by Stockwell and by the young Carson, son of L.M. Kit Carson, who adapted the screenplay from Sam Shepard's Motel Stories. Robby Muller's photography and Ry Cooder's score add immeasurably to the impact of this superlative mood piece."

Wim Wenders (In weiter Ferne, so nah, Der Himmel über Berlin) lässt sich bei dieser Familientragödie viel Zeit. Paris, Texas ist ein ruhiger Film mit viel Tiefgang. Auf die sensible Darstellung der Charaktere legt Wenders seinen Schwerpunkt. Der Film sucht nach den Wurzeln der Kommunikationsprobleme zwischen Mann und Frau, ohne das Ziel zu verfolgen, einfache Lösungen zu liefern. Die Tragödie nimmt ihren Lauf, allein die Erkenntnis sich selbst besser zu verstehen, verspricht Hoffung. Die Stilmittel des Deutschen Autorenfilms passend in einem amerikanischen Roadmovie zu verwenden, ist Wenders geglückt. Das Panorama der nordamerikanischen Wüste und die vielen stillen Momente verleihen der glaubhaft menschlichen Geschichte eine beeindruckende mythische Dimension.
