2017 Révolution bande dessinée

Organisée en partenariat avec le Fonds Hélène & Edouard Leclerc pour la Culture, la prochaine exposition d’envergure internationale du Musée de La Boverie à Liège a pour titre « Révolution bande dessinée » et se tiendra du 17 mars au 11 juin 2017. À travers un parcours de plus de 300 planches originales de dessinateurs français, belges et internationaux, l’exposition « Révolution bande dessinée » présente deux revues majeures, Métal Hurlant et (A SUIVRE), ayant bouleversé le Neuvième Art, depuis le milieu des années 70 jusqu’à la fin des années 90. Avec quelques grands noms de la bande dessinée tels que Pratt, Tardi, Comès, Druillet, Bilal, Margerin, Forest, Sokal, Schuiten, Baru, Loustal …

A l’initiative de la Ville de Liège et de Michel-Edouard Leclerc, collectionneur passionné de bande dessinée, président du Fonds Hélène & Edouard Leclerc pour la Culture, et sous la conduite de Jean-Baptiste Barbier, expert en bande dessinée, son commissaire, l’exposition retrace une période décisive de l’histoire de la bande dessinée franco-belge. Une période qui couvre pratiquement les 25 dernières années du 20e siècle, et où, grâce à des auteurs talentueux, la bande dessinée s’ouvre à un public nouveau, essentiellement par l’existence de ces deux revues, Métal Hurlant et (A SUIVRE).

Loustal

L’exposition présente un ensemble d’environ 320 planches originales des magazines Métal Hurlant et (A SUIVRE). Le commissariat artistique a été́ confié à Jean-Baptiste Barbier, directeur associé de la galerie Barbier & Mathon à Paris spécialisé dans la bande dessinée. Le principe scénographique a été́ imaginé par Éric Morin, et propose de mettre en vis-à-vis l’histoire des deux magazines. Cette présentation chronologique s’étend de 1975 à 1997, elle est divisée en 13 sections. Un ensemble d’entretiens présenté sous forme de projections audiovisuelles articule le parcours et est associé dans l’espace aux différentes sections. Les œuvres présentées concernent des auteurs comme Gal, Juillard, Margerin, Munoz, Gillon, Chaland, Sokal, Forest, Clerc, Manara, Comès, Boucq, Loustal, Servais,... D’autre part, l’exposition offre un focus particulier sur les auteurs phares de l’époque : Mœbius, Druillet, Schuiten, Tardi, Pratt...

Le parcours de l’exposition propose également en introduction une importante sélection effectuée dans la riche collection de planches originales des Musées de Liège. On y découvrira notamment des planches des albums mythiques « On a marché sur la lune » (Hergé), « La Marque jaune » (E.-P. Jacobs), « Le tombeau étrusque » (Alix, de Jacques Martin), « Le Chinois à deux roues » (Gil Jourdan, de Tillieux), de Gaston Lagaffe (Franquin), Tif et Tondu (Will), Lucky Luke (Morris), Chlorophylle (Raymond Macherot), Michel Vaillant (Jean Graton), ou encore Comanche (Hermann).

De volgende tentoonstelling met internationale uitstraling van het Museum Boverie in Luik, georganiseerd in partnerschap met het Fonds Hélène & Edouard Leclerc pour la Culture, heet « Révolution bande dessinée » en vindt plaats van 17 maart tot 15 juni 2017. Aan de hand van een parcours van meer dan 300 originele pagina’s van Franse, Belgische en internationale striptekenaars stelt de tentoonstelling « Révolution bande dessinée » twee belangrijke striptijdschriften voor, Métal Hurlant en WORDT VERVOLGD die sinds het midden van de jaren 70 tot aan het einde van de jaren 90 voor een revolutie hebben gezorgd in de Negende Kunst. Met enkele grote namen van de strip zoals Pratt, Tardi, Comès, Druillet, Bilal, Margerin, Forest, Sokal, Schuiten, Baru… Naar een initiatief van de stad Luik en Michel-Edouard Leclerc, een verzamelaar die gefascineerd is door strips en voorzitter is van het Fonds Hélène & Edouard Leclerc pour la Culture, en onder leiding van Jean-Baptiste Barbier, expert in strips en curator van de expo, schetst de tentoonstelling een belangrijke periode in de geschiedenis van de Belgisch-Franse strip. Een periode die ongeveer de 25 laatste jaren van de 20e eeuw omspant en waarin, dankzij getalenteerde auteurs, strips zich richten tot een nieuw publiek, voornamelijk door deze twee tijdschriften, Métal Hurlant en WORDT VERVOLGD.

 De tentoonstelling stelt een geheel voor van ongeveer 320 originele pagina’s uit de tijdschriften Métal Hurlant en WORDT VERVOLGD. Jean-Baptiste Barbier, directeur van de galerie Barbier & Mathon in Parijs die gespecialiseerd is in strips, werd aangesteld als curator. De scenografie werd verzorgd door Éric Morin en bestaat uit een dialoog tussen de geschiedenis van beide tijdschriften. Deze chronologische voorstelling loopt van 1975 tot 1997 en is onderverdeeld in 13 secties. Er worden ook tal van interviews voorgesteld in de vorm van audiovisuele projecties die voorkomen in de verschillende secties. In de expo is werk te zien van Gal, Juillard, Margerin, Munoz, Gillon, Chaland, Sokal, Forest, Clerc, Manara, Comès, Boucq, Servais,... Daarnaast biedt de tentoonstelling een bijzondere focus op de belangrijkste auteurs van die tijd: Mœbius, Druillet, Schuiten, Tardi, Pratt... Het tentoonstellingsparcours biedt eveneens als introductie een belangrijke sectie uit de rijke collectie van originele tekeningen van de musea in Luik. Men kan er onder andere tekeningen ontdekken uit iconische albums zoals « Mannen op de maan » (Hergé), « Het Gele Teken» (E.-P. Michel-Édouard Leclerc is the owner and CEO of the Hypermarchés Leclerc, a large chain of supermarkets and other retailers all across France. Over the years he has also become one of the most important collectors of original bandes dessinées art in Europe, especially when it comes to artwork that appeared in Métal Hurlant and (A Suivre), the two magazines that in the early 80s freed BD from its adolescence and allowed it to blossom into maturity.

In the modern art museum La Boverie in the Belgian city of Liège, near the German border, a remarkable exhibition has been set up of works from Leclerc’s collection, that allows even the most casual visitor to get a good impression of who those creators were that weren’t satisfied anymore with the traditional adventure comic mould, what stories they tackled and how they experimented visually. And all for the same, common good: making comics into a self-sustained, mature artform.

The show was previously in Laderneau and Angoulême, but has been considerably enriched to fill the Palais’ central room, showcasing new acquisitions in the Leclerc collection, but also important pieces from the collection of the City itself.


And so you can discover the beauty of original works by that rebel generation, with Hugo Pratt, Jacques Tardi, François Schuiten, François Bourgeon, Serge Clerc, Yves Chaland, José Muñoz, Jacques de Loustal, Tanino Liberatore, Moebius, Milo Manara, Didier Comes, Enki Bilal, side by side with current work by Brecht Evens, Brecht Vandenbroucke or pages from Paysage après la bataille by Philippe de Pierpont et Eric Lambé (winners of the Grand Prix in Angoulême earlier this year), as well as classics from the greats, like Hergé, André Franquin, E.P. Jacobs, Morris or Hermann.
All in all, some three hundred works have been organised thematically (focusing on the subjects that were important with the new generation: science fiction, rock music, cinema and contemporary art). They give an impressive overview of the amazing talent and variety that revolutionary generation had, but also the continuity with the giants that came before, and the young turks that are currently coming up. Not to be missed.
